Sale Sharifi
Salé Sharifi has been painting prolifically for almost twenty years. His work, often a reinterpretation of political and social history, literature, and traditional arts, has been widely exhibited both in Iran and internationally.
His paintings may appear to study days gone by, but they do not intend to evoke a nostalgic image. The absence of humans in his work reflects a contemplation on the role of subjective memory and an effort to exclude himself from the universe he depicts. His technique is inspired by Persian miniature painting, scientific drawings and illustrations, Qajar-era lithography and prints, as well as more modern tools such as airbrush, acrylic paint, and watercolor. Salé lives and works in Tehran.
