Niloofar Rahnama
Niloofar Rahnama was born in 1975. She lives and works in Tehran, Iran, where she completed her studies in visual arts and obtained an MFA.
Her work is influenced above all by her personal experiences. She is often intrigued by and attracted to the challenges of life and the resulting emotions that we may all feel but rarely care or dare to reveal.
“I am inspired by what I see and feel in my day-to-day life. My works reflect aspects of the outer world and serve as a reaction to the ever-changing environment surrounding me: war and its aftermath, death and the loss of loved ones, motherhood, and other novel circumstances that influence my feelings. Through painting, I create a connection between my self-awareness and the surrounding world. I revisit my ideas repeatedly, transforming them into sketches many times over. These sketches become buried under layers and layers of paint, again and again. Forms and lines appear and disappear regularly; they are revealed, then omitted—they are constantly evolving. In the end, it is the audience that embarks on its own journey through my paintings, using their own perspective.”
Niloofar describes her creative process as being very straightforward. Much like her visual style, it undergoes regular changes and adaptations in tandem with her development as an artist.
