* Farah Ossouli: “Remember the Flight, the Bird Will Die” at Max Ernst Museum, Brühl
The Max Ernst Museum des LVR in Brühl, Germany, is presenting a solo exhibition of renowned Iranian painter Farah Ossouli, titled “Remember the Flight, the Bird Will Die.” The show runs from June 27 to October 5, 2025 and is hosted in the museum’s Leonora Carrington Hall.
The exhibition features a powerful 15-part series created especially for this presentation. Its title is drawn from a poem by celebrated Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzad, reflecting Ossouli’s engagement with poetic expression and cultural memory.
In her works, Ossouli draws on the traditions of Persian miniature painting while weaving in references to European art history. Through this visual dialogue, she explores themes of femininity, intimacy, vulnerability, and power structures. A recurring motif of hair symbolizes both restriction and defiance, echoing the personal and political tensions present in her art.
Farah Ossouli (b. 1953, Zanjan) is recognized internationally for revitalizing miniature painting in a contemporary context. A graduate of the University of Tehran, she has exhibited widely and her works are included in leading collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Ludwig Museum, Koblenz.
