Nima Zaare Nahandi
He is a Iranian artist based in Tehran who has developed his artistic career between France, Spain, and Iran. Graduated in pure mathematics from the University of Tehran, he pursued his artistic education at the Beaux-Arts of Paris. After obtaining his MFA in 2010, he became a member of the Academy of France in Madrid, spending a two-year residency at the Casa de Velázquez.
His works have been represented by Dastan’s Basement gallery in Tehran and Nathalie Obadia gallery in Paris and have been showcased at numerous art fairs such as Drawing Now Paris, ARCO, LISTE Basel, The Armory Show, Art Dubai, Asia Now, and more. His works are included in collections such as the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and Casa de Velázquez.
Having practiced painting and drawing professionally, he draws his artistic inspirations from notions in the fields of evolutionary biology, cognitive science, botany, and anthropology, which nourish his work. Exploring the capacities of visual language to transmit ideas fascinates him. He carries out extensive research around the subjects of his works, which he distills into images.
In his artistic practice, he places great importance on the mechanisms of visual perception and the association of visual elements with concepts and sensations in our minds. Most of his works develop with meticulous details, which can take months to evolve into the final oeuvre.
